Minnaminnikkoottam – Narain, Jayasurya, Indrajith, Meera Jasmine, Roma, Samvrutha
Director - Kamal
The movies of Kamal delve into characters' psyche, revealing their mental insecurities and vulnerabilities. Kamal's latest venture, 'Minnaminnikkootam' is no different. This movie is a sensitive portrayal of a youth-oriented theme that clearly hits the mark..
Minnaminnikkootam is the story of eight techies who work in the same IT company. The focus is on the on-off love affair between Charulatha (Meera Jasmine) and Abhilash (Narain). Apart from them, the eight-member group comprises the married couple of Siddharthan (Indrajith) and Mumtaz (Samvrutha); Mani Kunju (Jayasurya) and Rose Mary (Roma); and the Tamilian Parthasarathy (Anoop Chandran) and Kalyani (Radhika). The film is a hilarious depiction of their small-time arguments and patch-ups.
Minnaminnikkootam is told in flashback, as Charu (Meera Jasmine) a computer professional in Singapore gets a marriage invitation card from friend Kalyani (Radhika) in India. The focus then shifts to Kerala, many years back when the eight techies used to have their weekly get-togethers at Siddharthan's and Mumtaz apartment.
Sparks fly between the lead pair as they squabble and make up over and over again. But the relationship is ruptured when Abhilash's father, an IAS officer mocks Charu's father, an ordinary bank officer. The lovers drift apart, with Charu shifting to Singapore.
The chemistry between the lead-pair is simply awesome. Meera as the sensitive Charulatha has poise and shows a maturity far beyond her years. Narain as the hapless lover is impressive and convincing. Jayasurya and Roma who are lively and steal the thunder while Indrajith and Samvritha are adorable in their respective roles. Sai Kumar, who has played Meera's father, has come out with a matured performance as well.
Other highlights of this film include Manoj Pillai's cinematography that shines but music director Bijibal does not quite live up to the promise that he showed in his initial films like Arabikkatha. Music, one of the highlights in a Kamal film is a total let down here.
With a interactive script which is highly thought-provoking and imaginative, Minnaminnikkoottam holds your attention and sheds light on the lives of youths today.
